Stop ! You’re under arrest. Remain quiet and put your hands away from your phone. Cop Dibald’ just arrested you and he ain’t kiddin with you kid. You can stay silent or have your lawyer call us immediately. Anyway, just shut the fuck up and hand us your Jimmy Choos.

But why ? What happened exactly for him to get so angry ? Well, you should know better by now kiddo. Haven’t all the past social movements teach you enough already ? Nah, no more excuses. You had days to post a black screen on your feed and yet, you haven’t done it. Not only can’t we be friends any longer but you will now be known as a racist jerk. Bye bye.

All friend groups have one. The guy who thinks he’s irrestibly funny with his racist jokes, but you laughed at them, haven’t you ? We all did. Yet this time, don’t even think about pulling one. The Morale Police does not care about sense of humor. Politically correct and thoughtlessness constitute the core of this very Police. And this one is even worse than the actual real Police outside, because you never see them coming, yet, they’re all gathered in one single place : your smartphone.

Not so smart after all. You guys, I must admit : I’m tired these days. Tired of all this drama happening online. As the Police has been criticized for decades, we never realized we’re our own Police every day. Social Media has now become the land of justification and promises of a perfect world. A terrible witch hunt began the minute you logged in. Luckily for us, our brain constitution varies between one another, so you get to decide whether or not you want to be a part of this social polizei extravaganza. Some category I hope to never see on Ru Paul…

Don’t get me wrong, the Black Lives Matter movement is a noble cause, but I’m totally against the shift it’s taken, especially online. A lot of people raised their voice to incriminate those they believed not to take action seriously, i.e, post a black picture. Is that all it takes to fight racism ? If you were 12, that would be cute but you’re 28 Susan. By the way, you don’t « fight » something wrong, you just put something nice instead just like you can’t defeat the cold, you add warmth into the place or put on a nice sweater. Sorry for the easy metaphore, but it applies here. Education and dialogue will help make the world better for sure, but incrimination and self-guilt won’t. I’ve seen it all online, from those pointing others not posting a black screen to some claiming they’re ashamed of being white. Gee, I even saw someone being judged and called out racist because he declared Asian Men not to be his type. So what now, we must feel ashamed of what others do because they share the same skin color ? But after all the human race has done on the planet, shouldn’t we feel ashamed of being human too ? I mean, an elephant or a kitty never harm anayone, only humans do.

Moreover, as much as this wokeness happening is good, history taught us this movement was doomed from the beginning. Just like every other movement basically. Remember last summer ? Why have people stopped posting about the Amazonia so suddenly ? Did it stop burning for good ? Don’t think so. You may think I’m cynic but it’s true. All these well-driven posts about the BLM movement will fade away sooner or later, just like every other movement that once invaded your page did. Calling stuff out isn’t enough, taking action is. And in silent please. Besides, you can never know whether someone speaks up for good reasons or not. Sadly, it could be they just want to look good or buy themselves some good conscious and image. Something you can easily do online, don’t be so naive Susie. From Feminism to LGBT rights passing by global warming, every cause had had its 15 minutes of fame. Remember all the people applauding the nurses at 8pm every day of the quarantine ? Where they at now ?

And what about all that brutality happening outdoors. Putting down statues of dead colonialists won’t change anything, just like shooting a modified version of Gone With The Wind. Rewriting history, or even erasing it won’t do us good. Instead, we should feel thankful things have changed since those times and take lessons of the past. So are we going to review everything and everyone to see if they fit our perfect morale standards ? If so, be prepared to never cross any statues or nameless streets any time sooner… Has our reason gone with the hashtag ?

But I’d like to thank social media for one thing : it’s become the new stupidity barometer. A quick look on someone’s page and you can spot their lack of intelligence in a minute. And their overuse of retouch application and filters too. Yikes.

Don’t forget, racism isn’t a trend. It is deeply implemented in one’s minds through their education, family, history and it took the test of time easily. A hashtag won’t solve it for good. And calling out others for not thinking like you do won’t make you a better person. It will just make you a petty morale police officer. You’ll be like those lame tiny dogs that bark for nothing all the time. You’d rather be an elegant leopard, don’t you ?
