December 2017 – Vienna

It’s only been two months, yet I already miss it. Christmas time and its greasy food and fat gifts. I suppose it’s the only time of the year when you truly treat yourself and find yourself more stuffed than the Christmas turkey Our first time in Vienna, and I cannot not recommend it to you (too many nots for a yes). Vienna is a gorgeous city way too much underrated to me. So far, I haven’t seen a town with such a great Christmas spirit. Anywhere you looked, a Christmas market was there. Moveover McDonald’s, the real happy meal is served in Vienna’s Christmas Markets. And god, Jade and I didn’t think twice when ordering something there (yes Jade is my travelling buddy). There are so many specialties served that you can come twice a day every day and still be surprised (and full) (and drunk). From warm liquors to hot chocolate, your throat will be satisfied and armed to face the cold . And Christmas decorations are on point too! The whole city looks like a shiny disco ball, under which we danced and ate all day long It’s like they’ve been doing this their whole life. Coming to the conclusion that Vienna is the capital of Christmas, I couldn’t help but wonder: is Papa Christmas Austrian? That would explain why it is such a big deal in the city . But something else asides the markets surprised us and woke us up: the lack of color in the city. Not in the architecture, but in the people. It’s all white and blonde everywhere. Was Michael Jackson such a big hit in the country that all its black community decided to undergo the same surgery? Or did the far-right political wing impose its beauty diktats just like the Fashion industry harshly did? And how come a city as rich in desserts and monuments could be so poor ethnically speaking? Instead of whiten’up, open’up people!

Dear Santa, please provide these people with more than just Sachertorte (which sucks by the way ). The holy ground of schnitzel and schnaps should be as warm and welcoming as its specialties. There you have the ingredients to the best city
